JK hopes Eid al-Adha fosters global unity for Gaza rehabilitation

Former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla hopes Eid al-Adha will serve as a catalyst for global unity in rehabilitating Gaza amid ongoing conflict. ‘May they agree, may the world unite to rehabilitate Gaza. That’s the issue,’ Kalla told reporters after attending the Eid prayer at Al-Azhar Grand Mosque in South Jakarta on Wednesday. Kalla noted Gaza’s current situation is relatively calmer compared to last year. However, he expressed hope for a comprehensive peace agreement. He stressed the international community’s role in addressing humanitarian impacts in Palestine and urged nations to unite in rehabilitating Gaza during this Eid period. ‘Gaza is somewhat better than last year. Last year was full of attacks; now there’s a ceasefire,’ he said. Regarding the significance of Eid al-Adha, Kalla encouraged Muslims to reflect on the values of sacrifice and piety. ‘As mentioned in the sermon, we remember sacrifice, unity, worship, and faith in Allah,’ he added. This year, Kalla performed Eid sacrifices in multiple locations, sending animals to his hometown in Makassar and West Sumatra, as well as at Al-Azhar Mosque in Jakarta. ‘Sacrifices were made in several places: Makassar, West Sumatra, and here at Al-Azhar,’ he said.
