Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Jusuf Kalla, has conveyed deep condolences over the deaths of Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldiers while carrying out a world peace mission in Lebanon.

The TNI soldiers were known to be on duty in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission, one of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations in a conflict-prone area.

In his statement, Jusuf Kalla emphasised that the fallen soldiers are not only fighters for the nation but also symbols of Indonesia’s dedication to the world.

“I convey my deepest condolences. They are heroes of peace who have sacrificed their lives and bodies for humanity and world stability,” said JK.

He assessed that the presence of the TNI in international peacekeeping missions serves as concrete evidence of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world order in accordance with the constitutional mandate.

“Their dedication is not only for Indonesia but for all humanity. This is a great loss but also a pride for the nation,” he continued.

The incident of the TNI soldiers’ deaths once again reminds the public of the significant risks faced by Indonesian peacekeeping forces in conflict areas. Nevertheless, Indonesia remains consistent in sending contingents to various UN missions as part of its active contribution to maintaining global peace.

Jusuf Kalla also called on the public to pray for the fallen soldiers and provide moral support to the families they left behind.

Attacks on peacekeeping forces violate international law.

Two TNI soldiers died due to an explosion while escorting a UNIFIL convoy in southern Lebanon. The incident occurred amid conflict, with the cause still under investigation.

The Indonesian government has expressed deep condolences over the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were carrying out a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

Minister for State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi conveyed condolences over the deaths of three Indonesian UNIFIL soldiers in Lebanon. The government is coordinating the repatriation of the bodies and has instructed increased vigilance.
