President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with the 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla, at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 11 June 2026. Kalla was accompanied by his son, Solihin Kalla, during the meeting. “We, Solihin and I, have just had a discussion and a long talk with the President, who was also accompanied by the State Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary,” Kalla told reporters. Kalla explained that the meeting covered Indonesia’s capacity for energy self-sufficiency. He told Prabowo that he was ready to develop several Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA) and Gas-Fired Power Plants (PLTG). “We are prepared. We have already built 1,500 megawatts of hydropower, and we are ready to build another 2,000 megawatts, including gas-fired power,” he said. Kalla explained that energy self-sufficiency is required to reach economic growth of up to 8%. Without it, he noted, achieving that growth target would be difficult. “The President therefore agreed that we should immediately develop national energy, particularly green energy, to be part of national development supporting the economic growth target conveyed by the President of up to 8%, up from the current 5-6%. That requires strong energy,” he stated. Kalla also revealed that he and Prabowo discussed global geopolitical conditions, specifically regarding peace between nations. “We also discussed peace, and what is happening in countries like Thailand and between Afghanistan and Pakistan. That is what we talked about as well,” Kalla concluded.
