Former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla met with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday to discuss an investment of Rp60 to Rp70 trillion for the development of green energy. He said the lengthy discussion focused on increasing national energy capacity as part of the agenda to achieve energy self-sufficiency. “We discussed an investment of approximately Rp60 to Rp70 trillion,” JK told the press after meeting President Prabowo. JK said his side is ready to support the development of clean energy projects. He mentioned having a location and design ready should the government wish to build hydroelectric power plants and gas power plants. Furthermore, he stated that energy needs will continue to increase in line with the government’s national economic growth targets. Therefore, building energy infrastructure is considered a key factor in supporting industrial and economic activity. “We see that for the country to grow 5 to 6 per cent, or even up to 8 per cent, it requires an extraordinary amount of energy. Without energy, it will be difficult to increase growth,” he explained. He added that President Prabowo approved the move to accelerate national energy development, especially green energy, as part of a sustainable development strategy while also supporting the 8 per cent economic growth target.
