JJLS Kelok 23 Undergoes Trial Run Starting Today

The Kelok 23 section of the Southern Cross Road (JJLS), which connects Girijati, Purwosari, Gunungkidul with Kretek, Bantul, begins its trial run today, Monday (14/09). The trial period is scheduled to last for one week.

“The trial run or open traffic for Kelok 23 will commence from 14 to 20 September 2026,” said Dian Rusmanawati, Assistant for Implementation and Supervision of the DIY PJN Working Unit, when contacted by journalists on Thursday (10/09/2026).

She noted that the trial will be conducted on a limited basis and will not operate 24 hours a day. The trial for Kelok 23 will run from 06:00 to 18:00 WIB.

“The purpose of the Kelok 23 trial is to assess its readiness for full operational status,” she explained.

However, it should be noted that not all types of vehicles are permitted to pass through Kelok 23 during the trial. According to her, heavy vehicles and public transport are not yet allowed to use the route.

“During the trial, Kelok 23 can only be traversed by private two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles,” she added.

For the record, the physical construction of Kelok 23 has been completed. The target for full operation is between September and October 2026.

“Alhamdulillah, as just presented, the construction target has been met,” said the Regent of Gunungkidul, Endah Subekti Kuntariningsih, to journalists at Kelok 23, Girijati, Purwosari, Gunungkidul, on Friday (28/08).

Endah mentioned that the construction of Kelok 23, which features ocean views, began in August 2023 and spans approximately five kilometres. Of that distance, 1.9 km falls within the Gunungkidul Regency.

“Our hope is that this will alleviate traffic congestion heading towards Gunungkidul Regency. Furthermore, it will assist tourists, particularly those visiting the South Coast, by providing easier, faster, and safer access,” she said.
