JIS Visitors Quadruple Thanks to Ancol Bridge and KRL Station

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed that public visits to Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) have increased significantly, by up to fourfold, at weekends. The surge coincides with the completion of the connecting bridge between Ancol and JIS, as well as the operation of the JIS commuter rail (KRL) station.

Pramono explained that this infrastructure integration has been the key to boosting the interest of tourists and residents in visiting the stadium in North Jakarta. According to him, the increase in visitor numbers has been most noticeable on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

“People come to JIS every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the numbers have risen nearly three to fourfold,” Pramono said whilst attending a gathering with the Jakarta DPRD, the House of Representatives and the Regional Representative Council for the Jakarta electoral district at the DPRD building in Central Jakarta on Thursday (30/7).

One of the solutions offered through this integration is easier parking access. Pramono said residents no longer need to struggle to find parking near the stadium, as they can use the vast parking areas in the Ancol complex.

“Now anyone who wants to go to JIS no longer needs to drive right up to it — they can simply park at Ancol. Incidentally, there is a very, very large parking space there. It can even accommodate 10,000 cars,” he said.

After parking at Ancol, visitors can walk to JIS via the connecting bridge. Pramono believes the walking distance of roughly 200 to 350 metres is still reasonable for pedestrians, especially as the government is also providing supporting facilities.

“And our people, if given facilities, would surely be willing to walk 200-350 metres. We are also preparing buggy cars for that,” explained the former Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.

Beyond the bridge, Pramono also highlighted the important role of public transport. He claimed to have requested that the central government arrange for KRL trains to stop at JIS Station to make it easier for residents to travel without private vehicles, which is also expected to significantly reduce congestion in the area.

With improving connectivity, Pramono is optimistic that the stadium — built during the era of Governor Anies Baswedan — will continue to develop. He also believes this will have a positive knock-on effect for the Ancol tourist area, which receives spillover visitors from activities at the stadium.
