JIS Station Set to Operate Serving KRL Commuterline Passengers Starting June 2026
JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI targets the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station to begin operations serving KRL Commuterline passengers in June 2026. KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the company is currently accelerating the completion of the JIS Station construction, targeted to be finished in May 2026. “KAI, together with the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, KAI Commuter, and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, continues to synergise to ensure that the construction of JIS Station becomes the answer to the need for better intermodal integration in Jakarta,” she said in a written statement on Saturday (11/4/2026). This station also serves as an effective solution to reduce the burden of traffic density and strengthen KRL Commuterline services on the Tanjung Priok route, which has shown a consistent trend of passenger volume growth. KAI records that the passenger volume for KRL Commuterline on the Tanjung Priok route reached 1,599,107 people in 2022. It then increased to 2,676,363 people in 2023 and rose to 3,377,633 people in 2024. The increase in passenger numbers continued in 2025 with a total of 3,531,311 people, while for the period from January to March 2026, the passenger volume has reached 873,658 people. “This significant growth in KRL service users proves that rail services are increasingly becoming the primary choice,” she said. Through the electrification programme and the construction of double tracks spanning 8.115 kilometres between Jakarta Kota and Tanjung Priok, the reliability of services on the northern route is now more optimal for passengers. “KAI through KAI Commuter focuses on providing transportation services that benefit the public. With the operational readiness of JIS Station and the strengthening of infrastructure on the northern route, fully supported by all stakeholders, we project that the contribution of railways to the smooth mobility of residents will be even greater,” she added.
