JIS Station Completed, Set to Serve Passengers This Month
Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station, located on the Tanjung Priok KRL line, is confirmed ready to serve passengers starting this month. The new station will ease public access to the JIS area. PT KAI stated that the construction of JIS Station has progressed according to target. As of April 2026, development had reached its final stage, with completion planned for May 2026 and passenger services commencing in June 2026. “The presence of this station will facilitate access to the sports and residential area, while helping to reduce traffic congestion in the North Jakarta region,” KAI wrote in its social media post on Tuesday (9/6/2026). KAI explained that the station’s construction was carried out jointly with the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and several other stakeholders. The existence of JIS Station is considered important to support the continuously increasing mobility of the public in North Jakarta. This station will eventually connect the JIS area, which has a capacity of up to 82,000 spectators, with the KRL Commuter Line service. “Before this direct access existed, people heading to the stadium generally still had to continue their journey using other modes of transport after alighting at the nearest station. This condition often caused traffic congestion and passenger build-up during large-scale events,” it said. Through JIS Station, the public will be able to connect directly to the stadium area using rail-based public transport. Intermodal integration is also expected to strengthen, making journeys to the North Jakarta area easier and more efficient. KAI also noted that the number of KRL users on the Tanjung Priok line has continued to increase in recent years. In 2022, the number of customers was recorded at around 1.59 million people, rising to 3.53 million customers in 2025. According to KAI, this trend shows that rail-based transport is increasingly becoming the public’s choice to support daily mobility. Therefore, strengthening infrastructure, electrification, and intermodal connectivity continues to be carried out to deliver safe, comfortable, and reliable transport services. With the imminent operation of JIS Station, access to the stadium and the surrounding residential areas is expected to become easier, while supporting efforts to reduce private vehicle use during various large events at Jakarta International Stadium.
