Jineng and Entil from Tabanan Now Receive Communal Intellectual Property Recognition
The Tabanan Regency Government (Pemkab Tabanan) has received certificates for Intellectual Property Rights (HAKI) in recognition of its commitment to strengthening the creative economy based on intellectual assets. Two cultural products originating from Tabanan that have now gained communal HAKI recognition are jineng and entil.
The HAKI certificates for jineng and entil were directly received by Tabanan Regent I Komang Gede Sanjaya during the UMKM Dialogue and Business Management Meeting in Klungkung on Wednesday (1/4/2026). In addition to Sanjaya, the Chair of the Tabanan PKK Executive Board, Ny Rai Wahyuni Sanjaya, and Deputy Regent I Made Dirga were also present.
Sanjaya explained that jineng has received HAKI in the category of traditional cultural expressions. Meanwhile, entil, a signature cuisine of Tabanan, particularly from the Pupuan and Penebel sub-districts, has been recognised as traditional knowledge.
“Jineng is a symbol of the local wisdom of Tabanan society in maintaining food security. We must preserve, protect, and promote it as a strength in the culture-based economy,” said Sanjaya.
Sanjaya stated that jineng not only holds cultural value but also represents Tabanan’s identity as Bali’s food granary. He views HAKI not merely as recognition but as protection for the true essence of Tabanan society’s wisdom.
Chair of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Advisory Board, Megawati Soekarnoputri, also attended the UMKM Dialogue and Business Management Meeting. In her remarks, Megawati emphasised the importance of protecting intellectual property as part of national sovereignty.
Megawati also appreciated Bali as a space for growing creativity and the creative economy. She stressed that Indonesia’s wealth in arts, culture, and resources must be seriously safeguarded.
“Our wealth is extraordinary, so it must be protected. HAKI has become international law. Therefore, it is important to conduct massive socialisation so that there are no claims from other parties,” said Megawati.
The event was also accompanied by the symbolic handover of 146 HAKI certificates to the recipients. Up to the first quarter of 2026, a total of 5,003 HAKI applications have been recorded. This indicates the increasing awareness among the public of the importance of protecting creative works.
