JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Chairman of the Ethics Board of Ombudsman RI (ORI) Jimly Asshiddiqie stated that, in light of the case involving former Ombudsman Chairman Hery Santoso, who is now a suspect in a nickel mining management corruption case, the recruitment system for state institution leaders through Selection Committees (Pansel) must be reviewed.

“Pansel must be evaluated; we cannot have the same system as before. This is not just for ORI—all independent institutions must reassess their recruitment systems to truly align with the original purpose of establishing Pansel,” Jimly said during a press conference at the Ombudsman Building in Jakarta on Friday (29 May 2026).

“It must not be mere formality, but a genuine search for the best candidates,” he added.

“The political climate is still not conducive, making it problematic. Therefore, evaluating Pansel is crucial for all state institutions. This is important for the President, the State Secretariat, and relevant ministers involved in forming Pansel,” he said.

Director of the Special Crimes Prosecution Office (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that Hery allegedly committed the crime while serving as an Ombudsman RI commissioner during the 2021-2026 term.

“The suspect was designated after the investigation team gathered sufficient evidence through a series of investigative actions, including searches,” he said at the Jampidsus building in Jakarta on Thursday (16 April 2026).

PT TSHI sought a way out by colluding with Hery Susanto, who was then an Ombudsman RI commissioner. To implement this, Syarief stated that Hery received money from LKM, director of PT TSHI.
