Jimly Says Police Reform Recommendations Are Ready, But President Has No Time
JAKARTA - The Chair of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, stated that the commission’s recommendations were finalised two months ago. However, Jimly said that President Prabowo Subianto has not yet had time to hold a meeting with the Police Reform Commission to discuss those recommendations. “We wanted to move quickly; the recommendations have been ready for two months. But the president hasn’t had time to receive the report. Yet, there are decisions that need to be made,” Jimly said at the launch of his book in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Jimly did not reveal much about the content of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission’s recommendations. “There are ten of us, five of whom are four-star generals, so us civilians speak hesitantly,” he said. Previously, member of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission Mahfud MD expressed understanding that President Prabowo Subianto has not yet been able to receive the commission’s work report. According to Mahfud, Prabowo is occupied with various issues that demand greater attention, such as the conflict in Iran and Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace. Mahfud emphasised that the commission, formed by Prabowo, has completed its tasks over three months since being appointed on 7 November 2025. He recounted that on 2 February 2026, the Police Reform Commission had finalised its work and was ready to report to Prabowo, but up to now, it has not had the opportunity to meet him. “Well, up to today, there’s no response—two months. None. We’ve sent the letter, but we’re holding back the document (the report) for now. Because the President himself said, ‘Don’t send the document; I’ll give you a schedule, bring it yourself.’ Why? If sent, it might leak. True, the President is right,” said Mahfud.
