JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Jimly Asshiddiqie, expressed his condolences on the passing of former Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel), Alex Noerdin.

Jimly remembered Alex as a creative figure with many innovative initiatives.

“Yes, I just paid my respects, expressing my concern and sorrow for the two-term governor who was very creative and had many initiatives,” said Jimly after paying his respects at Alex’s residence in the Kebayoran Baru area, Jakarta, Wednesday (25/2/2026).

“But that’s the problem, initiatives often cause problems, which is why he stumbled in the legal process. I said that prison is not for those who make mistakes, but for those who are wicked. If we categorise him as wicked, he is not a wicked person,” he said.

On the same occasion, Jimly asked law enforcement officials to reflect.

He urged that there should not be any more cases of criminalisation like the one involving the former Director General of ASDP, Ira Puspadewi, who was once detained and convicted, but later received rehabilitation from President Prabowo Subianto.

It was reported that Alex Noerdin passed away on Wednesday while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital.

The body of Alex Noerdin is scheduled to be flown to Palembang on Thursday (26/2/2026) morning to be buried at the Keluarga Kebun Bunga Cemetery in the afternoon.
