Jimly: Police Reform Commission's Task Completed; Report to Prabowo Pending
Chairman of the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform, Jimly Asshiddique, has stressed that the task of the team he leads has been completed. The report and the commission’s recommendations remain to be reported directly to President Prabowo Subianto. ‘I want to whisper later, to ask for time (President Prabowo),’ Jimly said during a gathering and iftar with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday, 5 March 2026. Jimly said the submission of the report is still awaiting a suitable time with Prabowo. He emphasised that there are several matters that cannot be decided by the commission alone. ‘Already, I asked. But because of his busyness, especially as there is a war now. So, before going to America, but it turned out not possible; the promise after returning from America. Oh, there is indeed a war. Therefore, to the wider public, I need to report that the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform has finished carrying out its duties; what remains are decisions that we cannot make ourselves,’ he said. Jimly said he would lobby Prabowo so that his team can promptly convey the report. According to him, this is important to swiftly address the issues at hand. ‘Well, we need to report first, obtain guidance from him. That’s why I am taking advantage of this, the iftar this evening, to lobby so that the President provides time so that the problems can be resolved—one domestic issue, one domestic issue,’ he said.
