Jakarta - Jimly Asshiddiqie has become one of the members of the Ethics Council for the Examination of Alleged Ethical Violations by the Ombudsman RI Chairman for the 2026-2031 Period, Hery Susanto.

This new assignment was given to him after completing his role as Chairman of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission formed by President Prabowo Subianto.

“The establishment of this Ethics Council is a manifestation of our determination to enforce the Code of Ethics and Conduct for all Ombudsman personnel without exception,” stated Deputy Chairman of the Ombudsman RI, Rahmadi Indra Tektona, during a press conference at the Ombudsman RI Office in Jakarta on Friday (8/5/2026).

The three external members of the Ombudsman’s Ethics Council are Jimly Asshiddiqie, Bagir Manan, and Siti Zuhro. Meanwhile, the two internal members from the Ombudsman RI are Maneger Nasution and Partono.

The involvement of external figures aims to ensure that the examination process runs objectively, independently, and transparently.

“We are strongly committed to continuing to maintain public trust in our public service oversight duties with full integrity,” said Rahmadi.

He stated that the council will hear statements from all parties, starting from the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), the selection committee (Pansel), and the DPR.

“We will hear from everyone, then parties with interests, possibly also from the Attorney General’s Office, and for example the Pansel. Previously, there was the Pansel and the selection process in the DPR, so we will also hear from various relevant parties as necessary,” said Jimly.

“Don’t rush to conclusions yet. We must hear from the person concerned, in accordance with the principles of justice. In line with the principle of audi et alteram partem, we will hear from all parties first,” said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) of RI arrested and designated Ombudsman RI Chairman Hery Susanto as a suspect in a criminal corruption case concerning the governance of nickel mining business in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra).

Director of Investigation of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman, explained that the case originated from a company initialled PT TSHI which faced issues with the calculation of non-tax state revenue (PNBP) by the Ministry of Forestry.

The company then collaborated with Hery to find a way out of the problem.

For his actions, Hery Susanto is suspected of violating Article 12 letter a, Article 12 letter b, Article 5, and Article 606 of the Criminal Code.
