Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman has formed an Ethics Panel as an effort to enforce the code of ethics and code of conduct for Ombudsman personnel, as well as to examine Hery Susanto. The Ethics Panel includes the first Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) for the 2003-2008 period, Jimly Asshiddiqie, the Supreme Court (MA) Chairman for the 2001-2008 period, Bagir Manan, the Principal Researcher in Politics at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Siti Zuhro, and two Ombudsman members for the 2026-2031 period, namely Partono and Maneger Nasution.

Deputy Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 period, Rahmadi Indra Tektona, stated that the decision to form the Ethics Panel was taken during a Plenary Meeting of the Ombudsman Leadership based on Ombudsman RI Regulation Number 40 of 2019 on the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Ombudsman Personnel.

“This step is a manifestation and strong determination of ours to continue enforcing the code of ethics and code of conduct for all Ombudsman personnel without exception,” said Rahmadi during his press conference on Friday (8/5/2026).

He hopes that with the Ethics Panel members consisting of three figures from national leaders outside the Ombudsman members and two Ombudsman members, it can restore the good name of the Ombudsman, while enforcing ethics in an independent, objective, and transparent manner.

“Our hope is that the presence of these national figures who have high reputation and integrity in the Ombudsman Ethics Panel will serve as a guarantee in the ethical enforcement process carried out independently, objectively, and transparently,” he continued.

Rahmadi also assured that public services at the Ombudsman continue to operate normally throughout Indonesia.

“At this time, we also ensure that all supervisory functions and public services continue to run as they should, and our commitment to clean, fair, and integrity-based public services will never wane due to the legal incident faced by one of our leaders,” he explained.

Previously, on 16 April, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) designated the Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 period, Hery Susanto, as a suspect in a Criminal Act of Corruption (Tipikor) case regarding nickel mining business governance from 2013 to 2025.

The Investigation Director at the Special Corruption Crime Investigation Unit of Kejagung, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, said that the designation of Hery as a suspect was carried out after the investigation team conducted searches and other actions.

“The investigation team of the Special Corruption Crime Investigation Unit has designated HS as a suspect in the Tipikor case of nickel mining business governance in 2025. The designation of the suspect was carried out after the investigation team conducted searches and other actions,” said Syarief, quoted on Friday (8/5/2026).
