Jilted husband takes own life

JAKARTA (JP): A 34-year-old antique seller, apparently despondent after his wife left him for another man two years ago, slashed his wrist and neck on a visit to his in-laws' home in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Sunday.

Nur Andri Handono was found dying by his father-in-law on the bathroom of the residence. He was visiting his eight-year-old daughter, Evi, who lived with her grandparents.

Andri's father, Moh. Tarmin Tasim, said yesterday he did not know why his third son, who lived with him in his home on Jl. Galur Sari, East Jakarta, took his own life.

"Last Friday he arrived home and only told me that he was going to his in-laws' residence to visit his daughter."

He said Andri left a letter to his father-in-law, but he did not mention its contents.

Andri, who sold antiques on Jl. Surabaya, Central Jakarta, was married to Suminah, Evi's mother, but their marriage had broken down.

"Two years ago, Suminah left him and lived with her former boyfriend in Tangerang. They have two children now," Tarmin said.

The death raised the suicide death toll to 22 in the past four months.

Andri's body was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for a postmortem examination. He will be buried at Kemiri cemetery in East Jakarta. (ivy)
