JICT Retiree Ermanto Usman Murdered During Armed Robbery
Jakarta Metropolitan Police have revealed the case of the murder of Ermanto Usman, a retired employee of Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), at his residence in Bekasi, West Java. The victim was killed by a robber identified only as S.
“The motive was theft or murder committed in the course of a robbery by the suspect,” said Kombes Iman Imannudin, Head of Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, during a press conference on Wednesday, 10 March 2026.
Iman explained that the perpetrator did not target the victim specifically and chose the victim’s house at random. The perpetrator, according to Iman, selected Ermanto Usman’s house because it was the largest residence in the area.
“We clarify the investigation results, supported by evidence and witness statements, that the perpetrator had no specific target. At the time, the perpetrator saw that the house was the largest, so the perpetrator believed he could obtain enough valuables there,” he explained.
Iman added that the suspect killed the victim after being caught in the act. The perpetrator struck the victim and his wife with a crowbar that he had brought to break into the house.
“The suspect was startled when the victim woke up upon hearing the alarm for sahur (pre-dawn meal). When the female victim turned on the lights and encountered the suspect, the suspect struck her with the crowbar that was being used to prise open the window,” he said.
“When striking the female victim, as the bedroom door was open, the suspect saw the male victim sitting up; out of panic, he struck again,” he added.
The murder occurred on Monday, 2 March. The perpetrator was apprehended by the Metro Jaya Police’s Special Robbery Unit (Jatanras) at 18:54 on Monday, 9 March, in Cilincing, North Jakarta. The perpetrator has been designated a suspect and is being detained.
When discovered, Ermanto was already deceased, covered in blood. His wife sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition at the hospital.
