JICT retiree Ermanto Usman dies after being robbed in Bekasi

Police are still investigating and pursuing suspects in the alleged robbery that killed Ermanto Usman, a 65-year-old retiree of the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), in Jatibening, Pondok Gede, Bekasi City, West Java. It is known that his wife, P (60), was also a victim and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital. ‘We extend our condolences to the family of the victim, and hope the perpetrators are quickly arrested,’ said Public Relations Head of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, to reporters on Thursday (5 March). Budi did not reveal further details about the investigation. He only said that Bekasi City Metro Police Resort, together with the Jatanras and Resmob Sub-Directorates of Polda Metro Jaya, are continuing to work to uncover the case. ‘Regarding the motive, this is still under investigation. The team’s main focus at present is to gather facts, identify the perpetrators, and make arrests,’ he said. Previously, Ermanto Usman and his wife were attacked by robbers at their home in Jatibening, Pondok Gede, Bekasi, West Java on Monday (2 March). The incident was only discovered by their son as sahur approached. At that time, the son grew suspicious because his parents had not woken him for sahur by 04:00 WIB. ‘When he woke up, he was startled, ’it’s almost imsak,’ so he went downstairs. When he went downstairs, he found there was no answer, and the door handle was damaged and could not be opened,’ said Andi Muhammad Iqbal, the head of Criminal Investigation at Bekasi City Metro Police, to reporters on Monday (2 March). Meanwhile the mother sustained serious injuries and was immediately treated at hospital. From preliminary investigations, several items went missing in the attack: a gold bracelet worn by the victim and two car keys.
