JICT Optimises 'Dual Move' to Boost Export-Import Truck Movement

PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) is continuing to optimise the application of ‘dual move’ to increase the productivity of export-import truck movements while opening opportunities to reduce traffic congestion around Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta. The ‘dual move’ is an operational scheme that allows vehicles to deliver export containers and collect import containers in a single terminal visit. JICT Director of Operations and Engineering Doni Budiono said that dual move is part of an effort to improve efficiency from a broader logistics chain perspective. ‘Terminal efficiency will provide greater value when it can be translated into productivity for service users. Through dual move, we open up the opportunity for one vehicle visit to generate two productive movements,’ Doni said during a dual move socialisation event in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Wednesday. The socialisation involved the Tanjung Priok Harbourmaster Office (KSOP), Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok, service users, associations, freight forwarding companies, and trucking firms. According to Doni, JICT will not only measure the programme’s success by the number of transactions, but also by process reliability, service user adoption rates, truck turn time, and the effectiveness of field implementation. ‘We want the benefits of dual move to be proven with data. Therefore, we will continuously monitor and evaluate its implementation together with customers, freight forwarders, and trucking companies,’ he said. Head of the Tanjung Priok Main Harbourmaster Office Capt. Heru Susanto said the government continues to emphasise the importance of modernising national port governance to smooth the flow of goods distribution and increase logistics competitiveness. ‘Improving service quality includes how we continuously refine processes, coordination, and the productivity of goods and vehicle movements within the port ecosystem,’ Heru said. He added that the implementation of integrated operational innovations at container terminals can run optimally if all port elements move in a solid, disciplined work rhythm while still complying with regulations. ‘The dual move initiative being socialised by JICT offers an approach to integrating export and import activities in a single vehicle visit. The success of its implementation certainly depends heavily on the collaboration of all parties,’ he said. Meanwhile, Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok Senior Commercial Manager Chandra Irawan appreciated JICT as a terminal operator that consistently carries out various innovations and operational process improvements. He said the optimisation of dual move is relevant to efforts to increase vehicle movement productivity in the Tanjung Priok Port area. ‘If this programme can be optimised and its utilisation becomes higher, we see that in the long term it has the potential to contribute to reducing traffic congestion, both within the port area and around Tanjung Priok,’ he said.
