Jiang heads north on Myanmar tour
MYANMAR: Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Friday traveled to
Myanmar's historical site of Bagan before heading north to
Mandalay, where a growing number of Chinese businesses are taking
root.
Jiang flew to Bagan from the Ngapali beach resort on the Bay
of Bengal, where he stopped for a day's rest after concluding his
official program in the military state with the signing of seven
cooperation pacts.
He was due later on Friday to visit the ancient capital of
Mandalay, some 279 kilometers north of the capital Yangon, where
there is a large Chinese population.
Jiang is expected to tour cultural and religious sites such as
the Golden Palace in Mandalay, where a growing number of Chinese
migrants have set up flourishing businesses, before leaving for
Beijing on Saturday. --AFP
