I cheerfully welcomed the opening of Jakarta Fair (JF) 2000 in
celebration of Jakarta's anniversary.

JF is very popular and is meant to be a cheap and entertaining
event, so my family and I never fail to visit it every year. In
the grounds everybody can enjoy themselves and can buy things at
reasonable prices.

However, this year Jakarta Fair is not so exciting simply
because of the prevailing economic crisis. Besides, in my opinion
the entrance ticket is too expensive. Imagine, on Saturdays and
Sundays, they set the ticket price at Rp 5,000 per person. and Rp
3,500 for the rest of the week. So a family of five, for example,
will have to pay as much as Rp 25,000 for a weekend visit. Not to
mention the transportation cost etc. To spend Rp 100,000 for a
single visit would be unthinkable. Hence Jakarta Fair 2000 is far
from cheap entertainment.

We call on the authorities to consider the matter and make the
Jakarta Fair affordable for the public.
