Jetty in Kayong Utara, West Kalimantan, Engulfed by Fire, Five Speedboats Destroyed

A fire swept through a jetty and destroyed five speedboats in Tanah Merah Hamlet, Sutera Village, Sukadana District, Kayong Utara Regency, West Kalimantan. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Head of the Kayong Utara Regency Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Fatul Bahri, stated that the incident occurred around 3.15 am WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on Tuesday (9/6/2026). He said his agency subsequently received a report of the fire from a member of the Manggala Agni fire brigade. ‘After receiving information about the fire at the speedboat jetty, BPBD officers immediately moved to the location to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the surrounding area,’ Fatul Bahri said when confirmed on Tuesday evening. The burned jetty is known to be owned by Tomi Radiansyah. In addition to the jetty structure, five speedboats at the location were also gutted by the fire. Officers utilised a water source located approximately 10 metres from the incident site to accelerate the suppression process. The firefighting operation commenced around 3.40 am WIB and continued until the flames were successfully brought under control. There were no fatalities in the incident. However, material losses are estimated to be substantial as the jetty building and several speedboats sustained severe damage. ‘As of now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the relevant authorities. We are still awaiting the results of further inquiries,’ he stated.
