Jetour Boss Confirms Electric Vehicles Will Launch in Indonesia
BEIJING, KOMPAS.com – The Chinese automotive brand Jetour has confirmed it will soon join the electric vehicle market in Indonesia. This was directly confirmed by Jetour International President Ke Chuandeng, who stated that Indonesia is a priority in their electrification expansion. According to Ke, the initial step Jetour will take is to introduce plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, followed later by pure electric vehicles or battery electric vehicles (BEV). “The products are already available in China, and we have launched them in South Africa, and will soon follow in Malaysia and Indonesia because we need to do it with local production,” he said. This means the arrival of Jetour’s electrified vehicles in Indonesia will not be immediate. The company is still preparing local production as part of a long-term strategy to be more competitive in the domestic market. “So at Jetour currently we don’t have it yet, but we are developing (BEV), as you might have seen in our car showroom clinics,” Ke said. Not only PHEV, Jetour also confirmed that pure electric vehicles will soon follow. In fact, the launch timeline is already becoming visible. With this roadmap, Indonesia is assured to receive Jetour’s line of electrified vehicles in the near future. The strategy starting with PHEV is considered quite realistic, given that electric vehicle infrastructure in Indonesia is still developing. If realised according to plan, Jetour’s step will further enliven the electric vehicle competition in the country, while providing more choices for consumers who want to switch to environmentally friendly vehicles.
