Jet planes avoid collision in Manila

MANILA (AFP): A Canadian jumbo jet was yesterday involved in a minor collision with a Taiwanese airliner on the tarmac at Manila's international airport, officials said.

The wing of the Canadian Airlines Boeing 747 touched the Eva Air plane as the two passed each other.

The incident caused no injuries but both planes were suspended from service following the incident to check for damage.

The Canadian Airlines plane, which was bound for Hong Kong, was grounded while maintenance workers assessed the damage. Airport investigators said the Eva Air plane was also being checked before it was allowed to fly.
