Jet Fuel Supply at Italian Airports Limited Until 9 April 2026
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Major aviation fuel suppliers issued notices to several airlines over the weekend that jet fuel distribution will be rationed until 9 April 2026 at various Italian airports, amid a surge in Easter holiday traffic and tensions in the Middle East region. Air BP announced fuel filling restrictions at four airports, namely Bologna, Milan Linate, Treviso, and Venice, according to reports from the ANSA news agency. It was stated that priority for fuel filling will be given to air ambulance flights, state flights, and those with a duration of more than three hours, while for other flights, distribution will be rationed at least until 9 April. President of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority ENAC, Pierluigi Di Palma, said the fuel supply difficulties “are related to the busy Easter period, not due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.” “If the conflict continues, there will be consequences,” he told ANSA. The announcement comes amid rising regional tensions since the United States and Israel launched joint strikes against Iran on 28 February, which reportedly killed more than 1,340 people, including the then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, as a form of self-defence. Iran also restricted ship movements through the Strait of Hormuz.
