JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Garuda Indonesia is adjusting ticket prices and flight routes in response to the surge in aviation fuel (avtur) prices triggered by global geopolitical dynamics.

As a follow-up, Garuda Indonesia will make proportional and measured adjustments to ticket prices, while prioritising principles of prudence, transparency, and compliance with applicable regulations.

“Ticket price adjustments are being made in a measured manner and will continue to be evaluated periodically in line with the highly dynamic avtur price movements,” explained Garuda Indonesia’s President Director, Glenny Kairupan, in an official statement on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

This step is taken to maintain capacity productivity while ensuring the company’s operational continuity.

“The company is currently reviewing the optimisation of flight frequencies and schedules as part of efforts to maintain efficiency and operational sustainability,” he added.

Glenny stated that the airline is ensuring optimal flight services amid industry pressures.

On the other hand, to ensure the continuity of the aviation industry, the government is also implementing a policy on fuel surcharge adjustments, along with plans to provide a 11 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) incentive borne by the government (DTP).

“Amid the global aviation industry’s dynamics influenced by geopolitical uncertainties and fuel price fluctuations, Garuda Indonesia ensures that service continuity remains intact in line with government policies,” said Glenny.

According to him, these policies represent a strategic step in maintaining a balance between airline operational sustainability and the affordability of air transport services for the public.

“This step also supports the stability of the national aviation industry ecosystem, allowing airlines to continue operating effectively while preserving accessibility for the public,” he continued.

Looking ahead, Garuda Indonesia will continue to monitor geopolitical developments and global aviation industry dynamics, making adaptive adjustments to maintain a balance between business sustainability and service to the public.

“As the nation’s flag carrier, we are committed to continuing to provide safe, reliable services that meet the public’s mobility needs, while supporting national connectivity,” stated Glenny.
