Jet Fuel Price Surge Leads Garuda to Request Rp 7.9 Million Increase per Hajj Pilgrim, Saudia Airlines Seeks 480 USD
Jakarta - Deputy Minister for Hajj Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated that due to the increase in aviation fuel (avtur) prices, airlines such as Garuda Indonesia and Saudia Airlines have submitted requests for additional fees for Hajj pilgrims.
Dahnil explained that Garuda is requesting an increase of Rp 7.9 million per Hajj pilgrim, while Saudia is seeking USD 480 or Rp 8.1 million per pilgrim.
“For example, Garuda Indonesia has proposed an increase of around Rp 7.9 million per pilgrim. Meanwhile, Saudia Airlines has proposed an increase of USD 480 per pilgrim, which equates to about Rp 8 million when converted to rupiah,” said Dahnil at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday evening (8/4/2026).
However, Dahnil noted that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that these requests from the airlines must not be burdened onto the pilgrims.
“The President’s directive is that Hajj costs must still be reduced by Rp 2 million. So, there will be no increase in Hajj costs. In fact, the President has decided that these increases will be covered by the state budget (APBN), and we will also discuss with the BPKH regarding Hajj financial management,” he said.
“So, in total, it’s about Rp 1.77 trillion. If all the increases are totalled, the APBN must cover around Rp 1.77 trillion. We will review the recalculation later,” Dahnil added.
In fact, avtur prices are currently rising from Rp 13,656 per litre to Rp 23,551 per litre.
“What we have decided, which I can announce now, is that the implementation of Hajj in 2026, unless the Saudi Arabian government decides otherwise, we will ensure that Hajj costs for 2026 are reduced by around Rp 2 million,” said Prabowo during a briefing at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
