Jet Fighters Deployed, Wave of Israeli Attacks on Tehran Trigger Explosions
Explosions were heard in the skies above Tehran, Iran, and the roar of fighter jets filled the capital’s skies. According to Al Jazeera, on Friday (6 March 2026), Israel said it had launched a wave of strikes on Tehran and confirmed that its fighter jets had been deployed over the city. In a statement, Israel described the strikes as ‘extensive’ but provided no further details. An Al Jazeera correspondent in Tehran said the sounds of warplanes and explosions could be heard clearly over the capital shortly before. Earlier, Iran had bombarded Tel Aviv with missiles and rockets, with explosions reported at several locations in the area. Iran’s state television said Tehran had fired missiles ‘at targets in the heart of Tel Aviv’, after the Israeli military said it was attempting to intercept the Iranian fire that arrived on Thursday night (5 March). An AFP journalist in Tel Aviv heard two bursts of explosions that echoed across the city almost simultaneously.
