Jero picked to head PGI
JAKARTA: New chairman of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI) Jero Wacik is being called upon to produce the country's first world-class golfer.
National Sports Council chairman Agum Gumelar made the demand after Jero, who is the state minister of culture and tourism, was elected early Wednesday morning.
After transportation minister M. Hatta Radjasa and former minister Cosmas Batubara bowed out of the running, the final two candidates were Jero and Yapto S Soerjosoemarno of youth organization Pemuda Pancasila.
Jero, who replaces Haryanto Danutirto, pledged to bring the sport to a wider community. -- JP
