Jembrana Regency's Measures to Handle Alleged Involvement of Indonesian Migrant Worker in Sexual Assault Case in the US
Putu JW, an Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) from Jembrana, Bali, is alleged to be involved in a sexual assault case in the United States (US). The case has even gone viral on social media, and Putu JW has been arrested by authorities in Florida, US.
The Head of the Manpower and Industry Office (Disnakerperin) of Jembrana, Kadek Mirah Ananta Sukma Dewi, confirmed the information regarding a resident of Jembrana caught up in a legal case in the US. The Jembrana Regency Government (Pemkab) is stepping in to handle the matter.
Monitoring Case Developments
Mirah stated that Pemkab Jembrana is currently monitoring the developments of Putu JW’s case. The information obtained so far has come from the media. To date, Mirah admitted to only following the progress of the case through local media reports in Florida.
“For the time being, we cannot provide a detailed chronology,” Mirah explained when confirmed by detikBali on Thursday (9/4/2026).
Disnakerperin Jembrana, Mirah clarified, is also continuously monitoring the case developments through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in the US.
Cross-Agency Coordination
Disnakerperin Jembrana is also coordinating with the Bali Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP3MI) because the family has not yet been able to communicate.
“But we have not yet communicated with the PMI in question, and the family has also not been able to communicate. We are still coordinating with the Head of BP3MI Bali,” Mirah revealed.
In addition to BP3MI, coordination is also being carried out with the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (KP2MI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu). These steps are taken to provide legal assistance and ensure that Putu JW receives his rights during the ongoing legal process.
“This assistance effort also aims to seek balanced information as a basis for submitting a request for legal protection for the individual,” Mirah explained.
