The latest development in the legal case involving Putu JW, also known as IPJW, an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) from Jembrana Regency who was arrested in Florida, United States, has emerged. IPJW has officially rejected all sexual assault allegations levelled against him.

Based on case update letter number S.2482/10.14/PB.03.02/V/2026 received from the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Houston, IPJW is now assisted by a legal team from the Public Defender of Broward County, led by Rachel Gibert.

In the Florida court proceedings, IPJW, through his legal team, has submitted two important written notices to the court. First, IPJW has exercised his right to remain silent.

“As per the letter we received from BP3MI Bali, IPJW has submitted a Notice of Defendant’s Invocation of His Right to Remain Silent and Right to Counsel. This means all communications related to the case must be accompanied by the legal team, except for consular matters with KJRI,” explained the Head of the Jembrana Manpower and Industry Office, Kadek Mirah Ananta Sukma Dewi, when contacted by detikBali on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

Second, IPJW has firmly stated that he is not guilty of the alleged sexual assault. The defence has also filed a Demand for Discovery and a Demand for Jury Trial.

“IPJW has officially rejected and pleaded not guilty to all charges. The legal team has also requested the prosecutor to inform them of all evidence in possession,” Mirah clarified.

To date, the US court has not set a date for the next hearing. This is because the prosecution and defence teams are still in the evidence-gathering stage (discovery).

Meanwhile, IPJW’s condition is reported to be good. The KJRI Houston, which continues to monitor and provide protection efforts, has communicated directly with the man from Bumi Makepung.

“The individual is in good health. He expressed thanks for the assistance provided and sends regards to his family in Indonesia,” Mirah stated.

Relevant authorities have asked the Jembrana Manpower and Industry Office to facilitate communication with the family in Bali to convey this latest update.

Previously, the case attracted public attention after news of IPJW’s arrest went viral. The Jembrana Regency government, through the Manpower and Industry Office, continues to coordinate with KJRI Houston and BP2MI to ensure the legal rights of its citizen are fulfilled during the judicial process in the United States.
