A 33-year-old man identified by the initials SA jumped into the sea at Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana regency, Bali. The man, who is from Jember, East Java, was rescued by a joint search-and-rescue team and local fishermen after being swept along by currents in the Bali Strait.

According to information obtained by detikBali, the incident took place at about 9pm local time on Sunday (11 October 2026). It was first noticed by a mooring officer at Movable Bridge (MB) 3 at Gilimanuk Port.

A short time later, SA was seen drifting near the stern of the KMP Samudera Perkasa, which was loading and unloading at the LCM Pier. The ship’s crew immediately threw three lifebuoys towards him. The 33-year-old managed to grab one before the current continued to carry him north.

“Our personnel received a report that someone was being swept north by the current near MB 3 Pier,” said Gilimanuk Naval Post commander First Lieutenant (Navy) Aditya N, speaking to detikBali on Sunday evening.

After receiving the report, personnel from the Gilimanuk Naval Post and staff from the Gilimanuk Class II Port Authority and Harbourmaster’s Office searched the waters using the Naval Post’s Sea Rider vessel. The search concluded successfully at 9.20pm.

At coordinates 8°09’32.5” S - 114°26’22.3” E, the team found a fishing boat operated by a local resident. SA had already been brought aboard.

“When we approached, the victim had already been rescued by the fisherman. The Sea Rider then escorted the fishing boat to LCM Pier,” Aditya said.

The group arrived at LCM Pier at 9.32pm. SA, who was safe, was taken by ambulance to Gilimanuk Community Health Centre for medical treatment.

“During the initial assessment after he regained consciousness, SA said he had tried to end his life because he was facing serious problems. Before jumping from the KMP Jambo IX and being swept away, he had intended to jump from MB 1 Pier but changed his mind,” Aditya said.

“He is currently receiving intensive care at Gilimanuk Community Health Centre under the supervision of medical staff and the Gilimanuk police,” he concluded.
