Jember DPRD Member Who Smoked During Meeting Expresses Regret and Apologises

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ahmad Syahri As Sidiqi, a member of the Jember DPRD, who went viral due to a video recording of him smoking and playing games on his phone during a DPRD meeting in Jember, has expressed regret for his behaviour and offered an apology.

He admitted that he acted impulsively when he did this during a formal meeting discussing the issue of stunting in Jember. According to him, this was the first time he had done so.

“I deeply regret my actions and I will not repeat them,” said Syahri after attending a session of the Gerindra Party’s DPP Honorary Council in Jakarta, Friday.

He said that the DPP of the Gerindra Party had also imposed a final warning as a punishment for Syahri. If Syahri repeats the violation, the sanction imposed will be expulsion.

Previously, the Honorary Council of the DPP of the Gerindra Party issued a verdict in the form of a final warning to Ahmad Syahri As Sidiqi, a member of the Gerindra faction of the Jember DPRD, due to the “viral” case of smoking and playing games on his phone during a DPRD meeting in Jember regarding stunting.

The Chairman of the Honorary Council session, Fikrah Auliaurrahman, said that Ahmad Syahri had been proven to have violated the AD/ART (Articles of Association/Party Regulations) of the Gerindra Party. The decision was agreed upon by the Gerindra Party’s honorary council, which consists of five members.

“The Gerindra Party’s Honorary Council on Friday, May 15, 2026, examined the complainant, the defendant, and witnesses and evidence, and decided on the matter of violations of the AD/ART of the Gerindra Party,” said Fikrah at the DPP of the Gerindra Party office, Jakarta, Friday.
