Jember DPRD Member Regrets Smoking and Playing Games During Meeting: 'It Was a Lapse in Judgement'

“It was only the first time (that I smoked and played games during a meeting,” Syahri told reporters after being questioned at the Gerindra DPP (Central Executive Board) in Ragunan, South Jakarta, on Friday (15 May 2026).

Syahri admitted that he regretted his actions. He also apologised and promised not to repeat the behaviour.

“It was just a lapse in judgement on my part as an ordinary human being,” he said.

“I deeply regret what I did and I will not repeat it,” he added.

Stern Warning Sanction

Previously, the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council had issued a sanction to Achmad Syahri as one of its members. The sanction was a stern warning and the final one, given because Achmad Syahri smoked and played games during a meeting.

The Gerindra Party’s Honour Council read out the decision in a hearing held at the Gerindra DPP Office, Ragunan, South Jakarta, on Friday (15 May 2026). Syahri was found to have violated the party’s AD/ART (Articles of Association/Party Regulations).

“Having considered the matter, we find that Brother Achmad Syahri As-Siddiq, as a member of the Gerindra Party, has been proven to have violated the Gerindra Party’s AD/ART,” said the chairman of the hearing, Fikrah Auliurrahman, while reading out the decision.

In the decision, Fikra stated that Gerindra had issued a stern and final warning to Syahri. Gerindra stated that this should not happen again.

“We issue a stern and final warning to Brother Achmad Syahri As-Siddiq SE, a member of the Gerindra Party faction in the Jember Regency DPRD,” he explained. (tsy/amw)
