Jember DPRD Member Apologises for Playing Games and Smoking During Meeting
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, a member of the Jember DPRD from the Gerindra Party faction, has expressed regret for his actions of playing games and smoking during a Jember DPRD meeting.
“I regret it. Perhaps there was a mistake, and I apologise. That is all I can say,” Syahri told reporters at the Gerindra Party’s DPP office on Friday (15/5/2026).
Syahri conveyed his apology after attending a hearing of the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council.
“I simply made a mistake as an ordinary human being,” he said.
“I am very sorry, very sorry for doing that, and I will not repeat it,” he continued.
“It was just the first time,” he added.
The Gerindra Party’s Honour Council issued a final, stern warning to Syahri during the ethics hearing held on Friday.
“Giving the punishment of a stern and final warning to Mr. Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiq, a Bachelor of Economics and a member of the Gerindra Party faction in the Jember Regency DPRD,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council, Fikrah Auliaurrahman, while reading the verdict.
In decision number 05-004/PTS/MK.GERINDRA/2026, the Honour Council stated that Syahri had been proven to have violated the Gerindra Party’s Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART).
He was found to have violated Article 16, paragraph 2 of the Gerindra Party’s AD, regarding the obligation to uphold the party’s name and honour.
In addition, Syahri was also considered to have violated the cadre’s oath in Article 67, paragraph 5 of the Gerindra Party’s AD, concerning the obligation to maintain the party’s honour, dignity, and solidarity.
The Council also assessed that his actions were in conflict with Article 68 of the Gerindra Party’s AD, which requires cadres to behave politely, be disciplined, and be humble in their daily lives.
“If in the future Mr. Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiq, Bachelor of Economics, commits another violation, he will immediately be subject to the sanction of dismissal as a member of the Jember Regency DPRD,” explained Fikrah.
In the viral video, Syahri was seen playing a game, allegedly Clash of Clans, while holding a cigarette during the meeting.
The incident occurred when Commission D of the Jember DPRD held a hearing with the Health, Population Control and Family Planning Office, BPJS Kesehatan, the Social Service, and representatives from 15 community health centres on Monday (11/5/2026).
