Jember DPRD Member Apologises After Being Caught Playing Games and Smoking During a Meeting

Jakarta, VIVA – Ahmad Syahri As Sidiqi, a member of the Jember DPRD, who went viral after a video of him smoking and playing games on his phone during a DPRD meeting in Jember, has expressed regret for his behaviour and offered an apology.
He admitted that he acted inappropriately while attending the formal meeting, which discussed the issue of stunting in Jember. According to him, this was the first time he had done such a thing.
“I deeply regret my actions and I assure you that I will not repeat them,” said Syahri after attending a session of the Honorary Council of the Gerindra Party’s DPP in Jakarta, Friday, 15 May 2026.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s DPC in Jember Regency, Ahmad Halim, said that the Jember Regency DPRD is also in the process of conducting an ethics hearing against Syahri. He added that they are still awaiting a decision from the Jember DPRD.
He said that the DPP of the Gerindra Party has also issued a final stern warning to Syahri. If Syahri repeats the offence, the sanction imposed will be dismissal.
Previously, the Honorary Council of the DPP of the Gerindra Party issued a verdict of a final stern warning to Ahmad Syahri As Sidiqi, a member of the Gerindra faction in the Jember DPRD, due to the “viral” case of him smoking and playing games on his phone during a DPRD meeting in Jember regarding stunting.
The Chairman of the Honorary Council session, Fikrah Auliaurrahman, said that Ahmad Syahri had been proven to have violated the AD/ART (Articles of Association/Bylaws) of the Gerindra Party. The decision was agreed upon by the honorary council of the Gerindra Party, which consists of five members.
“The Honorary Council of the Gerindra Party on Friday, 15 May 2026, examined the complainant, the defendant, as well as witnesses and evidence, and decided on the matter of the violation of the AD/ART of the Gerindra Party,” said Fikrah at the DPP of the Gerindra Party office in Jakarta, Friday, 15 May 2026.
