Jember DPRD Member Admits Wrongdoing and Regrets Smoking and Playing Games During Stunting Meeting
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Ahmad Syahri As Sidiqi, a member of the Jember DPRD, who went viral for a video recording of him smoking and playing games on his phone during a DPRD meeting in Jember, has admitted to regretting his behaviour.
He expressed his apology and admitted to making a mistake when he did it in the middle of a formal meeting discussing the issue of stunting in Jember.
According to him, this was the first time he had done it. “I am very sorry, very sorry for doing that and I will not repeat it,” said Syahri after attending a session of the Honorary Council of the DPP of the Gerindra Party in Jakarta, Friday.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the DPC of the Gerindra Party in Jember Regency, Ahmad Halim, said that the DPRD of Jember Regency is also in the process of holding an ethics hearing against Syahri. His party is also waiting for a decision from the Jember DPRD.
He said that the Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Gerindra Party had also imposed a sanction in the form of a final stern warning to Syahri. If Syahri repeats the violation, the sanction imposed will be dismissal.
Previously, the Honorary Council of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Gerindra Party issued a verdict in the form of a stern and final warning to the Member of the Gerindra Fraction of the Jember DPRD, Ahmad Syahri As Sidiqi, for the “viral” case of smoking and playing games on his phone during the Jember DPRD meeting on stunting.
The Chairman of the Hearing of the Honorary Council, Fikrah Auliaurrahman, said that Ahmad Syahri had been proven to have violated the AD/ART of the Gerindra Party. The decision was agreed upon by the honorary council of the Gerindra Party, which consists of five hearing panels.
“The Honorary Council of the Gerindra Party on Friday, May 15, 2026, examined the complainant, the defendant, and the witnesses and evidence, and decided on the matter of the violation of the AD/ART of the Gerindra Party,” said Fikrah at the DPP Office of the Gerindra Party, Jakarta, Friday.
