Jember DPRD Member Admits to Lapse in Judgement After Being Caught Playing Games and Smoking During a Meeting
Jakarta, VIVA – Member of Commission D of the Jember DPRD, Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, stated that it was his first time playing games and smoking while attending a Public Hearing (RDP).
This was conveyed by Achmad after undergoing a session with the Honour Council of the Gerindra Party’s DPP, on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Achmad added that he acknowledged his mistake for playing games and smoking while attending a meeting at the Jember DPRD. He also apologized to the public and accepted the sanctions imposed by the Honour Council of the Gerindra Party’s DPP.
“I comply with the decision of the Party Tribunal. I regret it, perhaps there was a mistake, I apologize,” said Achmad to reporters, Friday, May 15, 2026.
“It was just a lapse in judgement, I am just a human being. It was the first time (doing it),” he continued.
Previously, the Honour Council of the Gerindra Party’s DPP issued a verdict in the form of a stern warning to the Gerindra faction member of the Jember DPRD, Achmad Syahri As Sidiqi, due to the “viral” case of smoking and playing games on his cellphone during a Jember DPRD meeting on stunting.
The Chairman of the Session of the Gerindra Party’s DPP Honour Council, Fikrah Auliaurrahman, said that Achmad Syahri had been proven to have violated the AD/ART of the Gerindra Party based on the decision that had been agreed upon by the Gerindra Party’s honour council, which consisted of five trial panels.
“The Gerindra Party’s Honour Council on Friday, May 15, 2026, examined the complainant, the defendant, and witnesses and evidence, and decided on the matter of violations of the AD/ART of the Gerindra Party,” said Fikrah.
If he commits violations again in the future, he said that Syahri will be immediately subject to sanctions in the form of dismissal as a Member of the Jember Regency DPRD.
Meanwhile, Member of the Session of the Honour Council, Yunico Syahrir, said that Achmad Syahri had violated seven articles in the Gerindra AD/ART, namely Article 16 paragraph 2 AD, which is to uphold the name and honour of the Gerindra Party.
Then, Article 16 paragraph 3 AD, Article 67 paragraph 5 AD regarding the oath of cadres to submit and obey the party’s ideology and discipline and maintain the honour, dignity, and solidarity of the party.
Furthermore, Article 68 AD regarding the identity of party cadres that in everyday life and behaviour they will always act politely, disciplined, and humbly. Furthermore, Article 2 paragraph 1 ART, regarding compliance and implementation of all the Articles of Association and Bylaws of the Gerindra Party.
