US Vice President JD Vance, scheduled to lead the American delegation in peace negotiations with Iran in Pakistan, is reportedly still in Washington. JD Vance remains in Washington on Tuesday afternoon local time. According to AFP on Wednesday (22/4/2026), this information was provided by the White House. Vance is said to be attending an internal meeting agenda. “Additional policy meetings are underway at the White House where the vice president will participate,” said an official in a brief statement sent to AFP shortly after 17:00 GMT. However, the official did not provide further details on the content or purpose of the meeting. On the other hand, Vance’s departure schedule to Pakistan has come under scrutiny due to conflicting information. Based on the latest reports, his departure was previously scheduled for Tuesday morning. The important negotiations with Iran are set to take place in the near future. Previously, the Pakistani mediator stated that they have not yet received an official response from Iran regarding participation in the second round of talks with the United States. Islamabad’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, said that they are still awaiting confirmation from Iran. “The official response from the Iranian side regarding confirmation of the delegation to attend the Islamabad Peace Negotiations is still awaited,” Tarar wrote on his X account, as cited by AFP on Tuesday (21/4/2026). He stated that this decision is very important, given that the agreed ceasefire period will end in a few hours. Tarar noted that Iran’s decision will determine the continuation of the diplomatic process, especially ahead of the end of the two-week ceasefire between the conflicting parties.
