JD Vance Says US Will Not Attack Iran Again Unless There Is a 'Clear Reason'

Istanbul (ANTARA) - US Vice President JD Vance has ensured that President Donald Trump will not restart military operations in Iran, unless there is a “clear objective.”

“What I can assure you is that the President will not redeploy our personnel unless it is deemed necessary,” Vance said on Wednesday.

He warned that any attempts by Tehran to restart its nuclear programme or attack merchant vessels would force Washington to alter its strategy.

The US Vice President also confirmed that negotiations in Doha, Qatar, are currently proceeding smoothly, with Washington consistently engaging in dialogue with “good intentions.”

“We will certainly fight to ensure these negotiations have the greatest possible chance of success,” said Vance.

Last June, the US and Iran agreed on a memorandum of understanding to permanently end the war that has been ongoing since February, subsequently reopening shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and ending the US blockade on Iranian ports.

Negotiations for a final agreement between the US and Iran, which will encompass Iran’s nuclear programme, are still ongoing.

The US Vice President further expressed his views regarding Iran’s internal politics, claiming that many parties in Tehran are now recognising the “mistakes” made by the government over recent decades.

“We believe we are seeing momentum for the people there who are attempting to turn a new page,” he said, while acknowledging that some factions still adhere to the “old ways.”

Previously, President Trump stated that the denuclearisation process in Iran “is going well,” alongside the presence of his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in Doha.

Although the White House has expressed optimism regarding the progress of the negotiations, Tehran has officially denied that any direct meeting with US representatives is scheduled. Iran maintains that any form of dialogue conducted with the US takes place through intermediaries.
