JCI Wobbles in Morning Session After Strait of Hormuz Reclosure, Check 3 Brightest Stocks in LQ45 Lineup
The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) wobbled in line with rising global uncertainty following Iran’s reclosure of the Strait of Hormuz. The JCI fell 0.16% or 12.42 points to 7,621.57 in the first trading session on Monday, 20 April 2026.
The correction occurred from the opening, where the JCI eroded to 7,638. Nevertheless, the JCI quickly rebounded to breach the 7,685 area as the intraday high, but the index fell back again.
Transaction value reached Rp 8.99 trillion, while daily trading volume stood at Rp 21.57 billion. Meanwhile, the total trades by investors amounted to 1.41 million transactions.
Analysts from Phintraco Sekuritas assessed that Iran’s action in closing the Strait of Hormuz drove the surge in global oil prices above US$90 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for May delivery rose about 6% to US$88.93, or approximately Rp 1.52 million (estimated exchange rate of Rp 17,170 per US dollar) per barrel, according to Monday morning trading reports from CNBC International.
Meanwhile, the global benchmark, Brent, for June delivery strengthened by nearly 5.63% to US$95.48, or about Rp 1.63 million per barrel.
From a sectoral perspective, the health sector plunged the most at 1.08%. The finance sector followed with a decline of 0.88%, and the property sector shrank by 0.74%.
In contrast, the consumer cyclicals and industrials sectors maintained positive performance, strengthening by 0.33% and 0.28% respectively.
From a technical standpoint, the JCI shows a weakening tendency with the MACD histogram moving flat. The stochastic RSI indicator is in the overbought area.
“With these conditions, the JCI is expected to move within the range of 7,600–7,700 in today’s trading,” stated the Phintraco Sekuritas Analysis Team in their daily research on Monday, 20 April 2026.
