The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) surged more than 1% in trading on Friday (14/8/2026). However, the index’s strengthening this time appears not to reflect a broad market rally, as only one stock was the main driver of the JCI. Based on IDX Mobile data at 14:55 WIB, the JCI stood at 6,385.81, up 84.04 points or 1.33% from the previous closing position of 6,301.77. Interestingly, the JCI’s gain was heavily supported by Bayan Resources (BYAN) shares. BYAN shares were recorded soaring 20% to a level of Rp14,400 per share, hitting the daily upper trading limit. BYAN’s increase contributed approximately 43.25 points to the JCI, or more than half of the total index gain of 84.04 points. With a market capitalisation of around Rp480.1 trillion, the surge in BYAN shares had a significant influence on the JCI’s movement. Besides BYAN, several other shares also provided positive contributions, such as VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas (VKTR) with 5.21 points, Amman Mineral Internasional (AMMN) with 4.28 points, Telkom Indonesia (TLKM) with 3.13 points, and Dian Swastatika Sentosa (DSSA) with 2.91 points. On the other hand, a number of shares actually held back the JCI’s advance. Bank Central Asia (BBCA) was recorded reducing the JCI by 2.49 points, while Barito Renewables Energy (BREN) was the largest drag with a negative contribution of 2.62 points. This condition shows that today’s JCI strengthening was not yet fully supported by large-capitalisation shares broadly. In fact, the financial sector was recorded weakening by 0.08%, even though the JCI strengthened by 1.33%. Of the 11 sectors recorded, the majority were in the green zone. The energy sector was the strongest with a gain of 6.96%, followed by primary consumer goods at 1.36%, raw materials at 1.33%, non-primary consumer goods at 1.05%, and technology at 1.03%. Meanwhile, the health sector fell 0.53% and utilities weakened 0.89%. Overall, 338 shares strengthened, 294 shares weakened, and 331 shares were stagnant. Total trading volume reached 24.77 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp8.76 trillion.
