The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed up 302.08 points, or 5.03 percent, at 6,309.73 in the first trading session on Monday. Research Analyst at Infovesta Kapital Advisori, Arjun Ajnawi, stated that the strengthening was triggered by an improvement in investor risk sentiment following a peace agreement between the United States and Iran. “All global stock exchanges experienced significant strengthening, with investors responding positively to the US-Iran peace deal. The announcement of a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz provided positive global sentiment, causing Asian markets to rally,” Arjun said. He explained that investors began allocating funds into risk assets, including stock markets in emerging markets like Indonesia. The formal signing of the peace agreement is planned for 19 June 2026 in Switzerland. The agreement includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of the US naval blockade against Iran, the release of 25 billion US dollars in frozen Iranian assets, and Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons during the final negotiation process. Domestically, investors are awaiting the Global Market Accessibility Review from MSCI and the rebalancing of the FTSE index on Friday (19/6), as well as the Bank Indonesia Board of Governors Meeting on Thursday (18/6), which is expected to raise the BI Rate by 25 bps to 5.75 percent. During the first trading session, 33.25 billion shares worth Rp17.20 trillion were traded across 1.93 million transactions. A total of 660 stocks rose, 86 fell, and 70 remained unchanged. The raw materials sector led gains, rising 9.67 percent, followed by the energy and industrial sectors. Asian regional markets also posted gains, with the Nikkei index strengthening 5.15 percent to 69,423.00 and the Shanghai index rising 0.98 percent to 4,070.92.
