The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) weakened significantly at the end of the first trading session on Monday (24/8/2026), reversing direction after the index had broken back through the psychological level of 6,500 last week.

Indonesia’s financial market entered the fourth trading week of the month with a number of important sentiments from both domestic and international sources. Trading activity this week is also shorter due to the national holiday for the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
Domestically, market participants are still observing the results of Indonesia’s Balance of Payments (BOP) for the second quarter of 2026 as well as developments in money supply for July 2026 announced by Bank Indonesia (BI) last Friday.
Globally, investor attention will focus on inflation and economic growth data from the United States, developments in US consumer income and spending, as well as the speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole Symposium.
The Indonesian stock market will also be influenced by the FTSE Russell index reshuffle, which has made changes to constituents in the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS) for the Indonesian stock market as part of the September 2026 semi-annual review. Based on data circulating from FTSE Russell, a number of Indonesian issuers experienced changes in market capitalisation classification, including a downgrade from the small cap group to micro cap.
The announcement of the review results was made after the close of trading of the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) on Friday, 21 August 2026. Furthermore, the changes will use trading on 18 September 2026 as the rebalancing date and will take effect from the opening of trading on Monday, 21 September 2026.
However, the list is not yet fully final. FTSE Russell stated that changes to the review results may still be revised until the close of trading on Friday, 4 September 2026. Starting Monday, 7 September 2026, the index changes will be considered final.
“Changes to the index review listed in the attached file may be subject to revision until the market close on Friday, 4 September 2026. Starting Monday, 7 September 2026, the index review changes will be considered final,” the statement read, quoted on Monday (24/8/2026).
For Indonesia, there are no changes to the Large Cap group, either in terms of additions or removals of constituents. The changes are quite significant in the Mid Cap, Small Cap, and Micro Cap groups.
