RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) opened higher on Thursday, April 16, 2026, standing at 7,663.34 at the start of the first session, up 39.76 points or 0.52 percent from the previous close.

On Wednesday, April 15, the JCI closed in the red, down 0.68 percent or 52.36 points to 7,623.58. A total of 380 stocks declined, 292 rose, and 149 remained unchanged.

Despite the stronger opening, analysts expect the index to remain volatile. Herditya Wicaksana, Head of Retail Research at MNC Sekuritas, projected that the JCI would test the upper boundary of its movement. “The JCI will move within the range of 7,786–7,843, simultaneously testing its resistance zone,” he said on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

Herditya noted that the potential for a correction remains open in the near term, estimating the nearest correction zone between 7,457 and 7,578. He added that profit‑taking is likely to influence market movement, given that the index has recorded gains for five consecutive days.

Negative sentiment is also coming from the weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar and falling global commodity prices. Oil and gold prices weakened in the previous trading session, while investors continue to monitor the potential continuation of negotiations between Iran and the United States, mediated by Pakistan.

These global conditions are seen as overshadowing domestic market movements, prompting investors to remain cautious in making trading decisions. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
