JCI Falls Nearly 1% in First Session Amid Global Economic Concerns
The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) failed to sustain its early momentum and closed the first trading session on Monday (29/6/2026) down 57.18 points, or 0.97%, at 5,838.95. The index had initially risen 0.79% before reversing course within the first 30 minutes of trade.
Large-cap banking stocks were the primary drag on the index. PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) fell 2.43%, contributing -14.05 points to the index’s decline. Other major laggards included PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) and PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI), which dropped 1% and 1.05% respectively. Overall market volume reached 6.48 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 4.02 trillion, while 399 stocks declined against 257 gainers.
Meanwhile, the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have agreed on a short-term policy focus to control inflation and protect public purchasing power. Mari Elka Pangestu, Vice Chair of the National Economic Council, stated that this focus is critical given the global economic uncertainty. The government also plans to redeposit Rp 281 trillion into state-owned banks (Himbara) and has prepared an additional Rp 100 trillion in standby funds to support the banking sector if needed.
