Jakarta — The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) continued its strengthening in the first trading session on Friday (28/8/2026). The JCI rose 27.11 points, or 0.42%, to 6,548.86.

Based on trading data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the index touched a high of 6,566.90 and a low of 6,518.45.

The JCI’s gain in the first session followed Thursday’s (27/8/2026) close, when the index surged 1.81% to 6,521.75.

In today’s first session, 343 stocks advanced, 290 declined, and 330 were unchanged. Transaction value reached Rp7.78 trillion, with trading volume of 21.05 billion shares and a frequency of 1.13 million trades.

By sector, the majority were in positive territory. The energy sector was the biggest gainer, rising 1.46%, followed by technology, up 1.41%, and financials, up 0.92%.

Education and academic services rose 0.82%, non-primary consumer goods 0.74%, utilities 0.34%, property 0.09%, and industrials 0.04%.

Meanwhile, three sectors recorded declines. Healthcare was the most pressured, falling 2.07%, followed by basic materials, down 0.49%, and primary consumer goods, down 0.03%.

A number of large-capitalisation stocks were the main drivers of the JCI’s rise in the first session.

Shares of PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) were the largest contributor, adding 11.75 points to the index. BBCA was at 6,525.

PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA) contributed 10.50 points, followed by PT Mora Telematika Indonesia Tbk (MTEL) with 9.79 points.

Other banking stocks also supported the index, namely PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) with a contribution of 4.66 points, PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR) with 3.60 points, PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) with 1.74 points, and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) with 1.4 points.

On the other hand, pressure on the JCI came from PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk (SRAJ), which reduced the index by 3.4 points.

PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) reduced it by 1.79 points, PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS) by 1.58 points, PT Sinar Mas Multiartha Tbk (SMMA) by 1.49 points, and PT United Tractors Tbk (UNTR) by 1.34 points.

Entering the final trading day of the week, Friday (28/8/2026), the domestic financial market still faces a number of domestic and global sentiments.

Domestically, the main focus is on the decision of House of Representatives Commission XI, which has approved Destry Damayanti as the candidate for Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor for the 2026-2031 term. Market participants are also monitoring the progress of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, which is targeted for completion in December 2026.

Globally, investor attention is focused on the first speech by US Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole Symposium. Japan is also scheduled to announce its consumer confidence index for August.
