The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) closed in positive territory on Friday, 23 October 2026. It gained 51.35 points, or 0.95%, to 5,439.26, after fluctuating throughout the session and briefly reaching an intraday high of 5,455.21.

The index opened at 5,397.34 and came under pressure, falling to an intraday low of 5,366.29 before gradually recovering.

In the second session, the IHSG slipped back to around 5,395. However, it rebounded towards the close, reaching the day’s high before ending at 5,439.26.

The gains came as investors monitored a range of domestic and global factors, including government policy developments, conditions in the banking industry, economic liquidity and changes to the Indonesia Stock Exchange’s (IDX) rules for calculating the IHSG.

Share transactions reach Rp13.85 trillion

Trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange was active on Friday. Transaction volume reached 401.84 million lots, with a value of Rp13,850.81 billion, or around Rp13.85 trillion.

The IHSG’s rise was also supported by the predominance of stocks trading higher. A total of 506 shares advanced, while 192 fell and 265 were unchanged.

The figures show that the number of advancing shares exceeded the number of decliners. This was consistent with the IHSG’s positive close after it came under pressure early in the session.

Although the index ended higher, market participants continued to monitor developments that could affect share trading in the next session.

Wall Street tumbles as global sentiment weighs on IHSG

The domestic stock market drew attention amid a downturn on US exchanges, or Wall Street. The weakness in US shares was one of the external factors investors watched during Friday’s trading.

In Indonesia, markets focused on government agendas and economic indicators that could affect the outlook for financial markets.

President Prabowo Subianto’s remarks on natural resource management were among the issues watched by market participants. Plans to streamline state-owned enterprises (SOEs) were also on investors’ list of developments to monitor.
