Jazz Gunung Indonesia founder Sigit Pramono stated that BRI Jazz Gunung Slamet 2026, scheduled for 27 June at Wanawisata Baturraden, Banyumas, is not merely a music performance but an effort to build a community-based cultural and economic ecosystem. “From the beginning, we designed Jazz Gunung not just as a jazz concert, but as a concert that builds a cultural ecosystem,” he said during a press conference following the Road to Banyumas Lengger Bicara 2026 event at Pendopo Si Panji, Purwokerto, on Monday afternoon. He explained that Jazz Gunung, which began at Mount Bromo around 18 years ago, pioneered open-air jazz concerts. Beyond music, organisers consistently involve art exhibitions, traditional performances, and various local cultural expressions. Sigit noted this concept aligns with community-based tourism development, ensuring economic benefits are felt by musicians, MSMEs, hotels, restaurants, and the surrounding community. He assessed that Banyumas has significant potential to develop a national-scale cultural agenda, supported by natural wealth, tradition, and easy transport access. “Purwokerto is a key railway hub on Java Island, making access to Jazz Gunung Slamet relatively easy,” Sigit said. Meanwhile, Jazz Gunung Indonesia Advisor Andy F Noya said Jazz Gunung serves as a collaborative space open to various music genres and cultural backgrounds. He believes music is a universal language capable of uniting diverse groups regardless of ethnicity, religion, or origin. He cited past collaborations, including one with the late Didi Kempot at Bromo, which received an overwhelming response from cross-genre audiences. “Jazz Gunung opens the widest possible space for collaboration. Here we accept differences and show that despite being diverse, we can unite,” he said. He noted the perception of jazz as exclusive music is shifting, as recent events have been dominated by younger generations. Beyond strengthening diversity, Andy believes Jazz Gunung Slamet can deliver economic impact for Banyumas through tourist arrivals from various regions who will utilise hotels, restaurants, cafes, and MSMEs. Jazz Gunung Indonesia Director Bagas Indyatmono said efforts are made to present a different experience at each festival. One attraction prepared for this edition is ‘Kampung Durian’, a special area showcasing various local Banyumas durian varieties for attendees, particularly VIP ticket holders. “We want to provide an additional experience, not just enjoying music but also getting to know Banyumas’ local culinary richness,” Indyatmono said. He added that Jazz Gunung continues to develop musician regeneration through the Bromo Jazz Camp programme, a platform for discovering and nurturing young talent from across Indonesia. He said Jazz Gunung also promotes the ‘Jazz-tination’ concept, a blend of jazz music and tourist destinations, making them a mutually reinforcing unity. Indyatmono invited the Banyumas Lengger Bicara 2026 committee to strengthen collaboration with Jazz Gunung Slamet so the cultural tourism ecosystem in Banyumas can grow further and potentially enter the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2027 programme. Banyumas Lengger Bicara 2026 will be held at Menara Teratai Purwokerto on 26 June and is expected to qualify for KEN 2027.
