Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives and Permanent Representative of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for Middle East Affairs, Jazuli Juwaini, is urging concrete actions from the global parliamentary forum to halt military aggression and prevent a regional war in the Middle East.

Jazuli, as stated in a release received in Jakarta on Monday, stressed that the IPU must not stop at statements or condemnations but lead coordinated global actions.

According to him, the IPU needs to encourage all parties, including Israel, the United States, and Iran, to return to the negotiating table and ensure compliance with international law without double standards.

“This is not merely a geopolitical conflict, but a humanitarian tragedy. The world must not continue to allow this suffering,” Jazuli said.

According to Jazuli, the conflict in the Middle East is no longer local but has evolved into a regional crisis involving many countries and global actors.

He stated that Israel’s aggression against Palestine is the root of the problem. As long as the occupation and violence against Palestine are not stopped, true regional stability will never be achieved.

“Palestinian independence is the key to breaking this chain of conflict,” he added.

“Its impact is not only in the form of security threats but also spills over into economic, energy, and social stability crises in the region. Strategic trade routes are disrupted, geopolitical tensions rise, and the risk of open war becomes increasingly real,” he said.

This situation shows that the Middle East conflict has transcended territorial boundaries and become a global threat.

He emphasised that a military approach will not solve the problem but will only enlarge the scale of human suffering.

“Dozens of thousands of lives lost, injuries, refugees, and destruction of infrastructure in various areas are real evidence that this crisis is a humanitarian tragedy that must not be ignored,” he said.

Jazuli affirmed that Indonesia’s consistent stance in supporting Palestinian independence is a constitutional mandate, a humanitarian responsibility, and part of the nation’s history.

Indonesia, he stressed, will continue to be at the forefront in promoting peace through various international diplomatic channels.

“It is time to stop the aggression, stop the war, and prioritise justice and humanity for the Palestinian people and countries affected by the conflict,” Jazuli stated.

Jazuli also attended the 152nd IPU General Assembly, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 15 to 19 April 2026.
